Keep up the great work, really like your sculptures, do let me know if at some point you have any flat knife scale type materials available for purchase, I can see a market for this. Knife scale material is usually 2 pieces that are identical (book matched) that are about 1.5 inches by 5 inches by 1/4+ inches thick.
I have a 3d model of a knife I designed, but not one to scale of one of my actual knives. Usually scale material is just worked from a set of blocks. I was thinking of a material say 1/4 inch thick with some kind of fractal pattern/texture in the top 1/8 inch ie on the surface, this could be a sheet material say one foot square by 1/4 inch thick, that handles could be band sawn from. I do not think it would work to try and make an exact handle and print it. some of your fractals would be amazing as non slip tecture patterns, so attractive and useful. If your on ebay just type in 'knife scales" you will see that there are many hundreds of wood scales to pick from, and some plastic and fake pearl, but nobody has a fractal textured material available, I think this would sell quite well, we knife makers are always looking for new materials and textures.
Thanks for the detailed explanations. I now see exactly what you mean. If I design one in particular, would you buy it? Check out out the materials and let me know if there is a particular pattern you'd like: www.shapeways.com/materials. Thanks!
I would commission you for one, but alas, I don't have a method of payment. I mean, if it's under 20 bucks for total order, then maybe I can convince my mom to let me get them o3o. I like the Sierpinski Triangle, but I really really love the standard Menger Sponge o3o
